Anxiety Therapy

At Betts Psychiatric, PC, we provide anxiety therapy for various types of anxiety disorders. Anxiety is a fluctuating set of symptoms that can be managed well with or without medication(s). Generally, through anxiety therapy, people are able to overcome symptoms quite quickly, and lead happier lives.

What is Anxiety Disorder?

Anxiety is a normal emotion that everyone experiences from time to time, like feeling sad or joyous. Anxiety can be protective and motivating, but it can also be problematic and debilitating. When anxiety reaches this overwhelming and unhealthy state, it is usually diagnosed as an anxiety disorder.

Anxiety disorder can be a chronic condition that an individual suffers with constantly, or a situational disorder that can be triggered by change, discomfort, or an unexpected event.

Some types of anxiety disorders include:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder
  • Situational Anxiety
  • Acute Anxiety & Panic Disorders
  • Social Anxiety
  • Phobias

Anxiety Disorder Symptoms

Symptoms of anxiety can vary depending on the type of disorder; however, some common symptoms are:

  • excessive worry, fear or stress
  • concentration problems
  • fatigue
  • insomnia
  • intrusive thoughts (common with OCD)
  • irrational fears
  • headaches
  • shortness of breath
  • shaking, sweating, or tense muscles
  • dizziness
  • heart palpitations and chest pains (most common with panic attacks)

Anxiety disorders can have a huge impact on not only the individual, but also the people around them. They can cause relationship or family distress, loss of jobs or social status, or create a strain on day-to-day communication. They can also cause isolation and self-esteem issues. When left untreated, anxiety can lead to depression or substance abuse.

How We Can Help

During our assessments at Betts Psychiatric, PC, our goal is to understand the severity of the anxiety the patient is experiencing. We determine if the anxiety is at a normal level or if it’s a true issue that is decreasing the patient’s ability to function. Once we identify the type of the diagnosis that the patient has, we can provide treatment through anxiety therapy, medication, or a combination of the two.

Through anxiety therapy, the patient will find relief from anxiety symptoms and be able to perform, relate, and communicate in such a way that his or her functioning improves.

We believe in open communication; if the patient wants his or her family involved in their recovery journey, we will incorporate them in part of the treatment process so that the patient is supported and is able to move forward.
